放射線治療を安全に実施するには、関連装置や患者治療データの確認(品質管理)が必須であるが、その項目は多岐に渡り非常に煩雑である。強度変調放射線治療(IMRTおよびVMAT)の検証に関しては、治療計画全例で測定検証を行うのが標準とされてきたが、近年、この測定検証の意義が問われるようになってきている。計算によるIMRTの検証ソフトウエアが各種リリースされ、米国医学物理学会(AAPM)では、これら計算によるIMRT検証に関するタスクグループが立ち上がり、新たなガイドラインを作成するなど、放射線治療の物理・技術的品質管理において新たな動きが出てきた。
For safe implementation of radiotherapy, verification of equipment and patient treatment data (Quality Assurance: QA) is mandatory, however the QA item is very complicated and wide-ranging. For the verification of the intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), taking measurements for all plans has been the norm so far, but the significance of this measurement verification has come to be questioned. Since various verification software of IMRT based on independent calculations are released these days, American Associates in Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) organized a new task group for independent dose and MU verification for IMRT patient specific quality assurance and started to prepare a new guideline. It appears that the new movement of quality assurance of radiation therapy has risen.
